Globe Fail

The Globe reported:
"Mass Pike ramp in Back Bay closed by police

with no details about the pedestrian hit, or the truck, only that police could not be reached for comment about why the ramp was closed.

The article has a byline and one additional named contributor, for essentially no information. Just a promise that the article would be updated when info became available

Posted sometime before 1:34 am, the time the first Globe commenter posted, noting that UHub had actual facts about the incident. An update later this morning mentions the pedestrian hit but no info about the dump truck.

Not fair use

Copyright law prohibits reprinting (or posting) entire articles* without written permission of the copyright holder. You have now made it necessary for Adam to delete your comment so that the Globe doesn't sue him for a lot of money. Don't be so inconsiderate of your host.

* Entire articles or very large portions -- I'm not sure just what the language is.

I've edited my post

I've removed most of the original article text, as a precaution, unfortunately can't post a link to the original since the article has now been updated on the Globe site (though still lacking relevant info.)

Wait, is there Tom Brady news?

Did he dish about Gronk's response to Mark Wahlberg's comments about Gisele's reaction to the thing that I've already forgotten what it was originally about

That driver also continued on his way without stopping.

Maybe this time the police and DA won't blame the victim though. I hope this gentleman is ok.

Massachusetts laws suck

There's a law that if you hit someone but don't know, you're not held accountable. So of course the driver will claim he had no idea even if he failed to look and/or made too wide of a turn. (Or did look and just didn't care.)

Expose yourself on the subway and the cops stop at nothing to press charges (which is good) but you can kill someone with inattentiveness or outright maliciousness and provided it's with a vehicle the police just shrug. If I had to pick just one, go after the actual killers.

...And now someone will falsely accuse me of being a car hater.

A license to drive is literally a license to kill. The laws in this country shielding drivers from responsibility for the death and damage they cause are disgusting. No need to become James Bond to get away with taking someones life.

Please don't go mixing up two different things.

There are - conceivably - some limited cases where a driver goes on because they actually didn't realize they'd hit someone/something and they might end up not being charged for leaving the scene of a crash. That has nothing to do with what charges may or may not result from their actions leading up to the crash.

Pretty much. The DAs have basically said that unless you're drunk, high, impaired in some way, or knowingly tried to kill someone, then it's not a crime. All you have to do is claim "I didn't see them" and you're off the hook. It's outrageous.

up

Really?

By on

I think the DAs would take you to task for that statement. And since they are not on this public forum to defend themselves against your allegations, perhaps you should not make wild accusations?

By on

Get caught with a single empty shell casing in MA without a license and a DA will be threatening you with a 10 year felony sentence unless you accept a plea deal. Run over an elderly person with your car, leave the scene, and claim "didn't see them", DA is not going to even bother prosecuting you let alone trying to bully a plea bargain settlement half the time.

A driver's license is literally a license to kill in MA. The wet noodle wrist slap serial drunk drivers get should be a hint the judiciary and prosecutors could care less about careless car related carnage.

Hell even driving without a license in MA is no big deal. Ram a state legislator while drunk without a license on the pike and be back on the streets in a matter of days. Rear end a cop and it's no big deal to anyone except the insurance company. These stories have repeatedly turned up on UHub over the years. The law is a joke when it comes to negligent operation of a motor vehicle. No teeth! Not even granny's dentures!

When Pedestrians ruled the roads

By on

My heart goes out to the man who was killed. I walk a mile through downtown Boston every day and I'm stunned by the callousness of drivers. Unless laws and society make a 180 degree turn, they essentially own the roads. It doesn't have to be this way. I encourage everyone to read this:

https://www.vox.com/2015/1/15/7551873/jaywalking-history

Excerpt: "Before formal traffic laws were put in place, judges typically ruled that in any collision, the larger vehicle — that is, the car — was to blame. In most pedestrian deaths, drivers were charged with manslaughter regardless of the circumstances of the accident."

Pedestrians need to put their head up when they’re walking down the street, take your headphones off … you’ve got to understand, cars are going to hit you.

Agreed. We should totally be able to immerse ourselves in our digital lives while walking thru the city and leave our personal safety in the hands of drivers. What could possibly go wrong?

Dangerous Intersection

By on

I cross there pretty often and that intersection has a lot of aggressive traffic racing to get on the pike and through the light. The intersections at Mass & Comm, Newbury, & Boylston Streets are wicked dangerous
