Police: South Boston bystanders chase down, capture alleged mugger

Boston Police report that when a woman failed in a struggle over her purse with a knife-wielding assailant and his boy accomplice on E. 2nd Street near L Street last night, two nearby residents gave chase.

Police say they captured the kid, 13, on E. 3rd St. The older guy eluded them. But later, a detail cop at the South Bay Mall spotted, detained and arrested him - still allegedly packing the knife he used to threaten the woman.

Kevin Stichel, 20, of Dorchester, and the younger alleged mugger were both charged with armed robbery.
