Boston Police report arresting four people at a melee outside West Roxbury District Court following the arraignment of alleged hit-and-run drag racer Kenneth Mauras today.

Mauras, 17, of Roslindale, was arrested Friday evening after allegedly running into a woman crossing Hyde Park Avenue during a drag race. He pleaded innocent today, was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 cash bail. Police say the woman could lose her leg; a second driver is still sought.

Police say that following his arraignment, words in the courtroom turned into a brawl outside the courthouse between family members of Mauras and the injured woman.

... During the altercation, officers arrested Miguel Soto, 23, of Jamaica Plain, Kenneth Ortiz, 29, of Boston, Luis Pena, 18, of Jamaica Plain and charged all three with Assault & Battery and Being a Disorderly Person. Officers also arrested Ilya Vodovzov, 20, of West Roxbury and charged him with Being a Disorderly Person, Disturbing the Peace and Refusing to Submit to a Lawful Request.

Nice. And just last night there was another drag race down Hyde Park Ave from the lights at Walk Hill.

That either takes stupidity, arrogance or a strong belief that the cops wouldn't be around a couple days after a woman got run over. Or all three. What time was this?

Or the cops -weren't- around.

I'm not sure I believe that "people show up from around the state" like one police report said, but if it is popular, it would not be too surprising that they'd run "spotters" like drug dealers do.

It'd be interesting to pull 911 records and see if anyone reported the drag racing the night of the incident, in nights past, or since.

She did lose her leg, above the knee. It happened around 7:30 at night. Her life, and Kenneth Mauras' life, is forever changed. It's tragic all around. God bless them both.

Not only is your inability to write in proper English pathetic but you suggest blame for a 65-year old woman who ended up having part of her leg removed because your puke of a cousin wanted to drag race slammed into her.

What would it take for you to grow a conscience and speak with a little more humility as a relative of such an unthinking delinquent? He was so stupid to not only have tried to drag race and ultimately hit a woman but do it directly in front of a cop without even knowing the cop was right behind him. The only redeeming act that your cousin made was to stop when the officer attempted to pull him over and not flee the scene like the other car did.

If you're going to act stupid, then you have to accept all of the possible consequences that come with it. Purposefully or not, your cousin severely injured another person. For you to blow that off and lay fault at the victim's feet, one of which she no longer has as a result, is almost more reprehensible than what your cousin did.

Trolling does happen. I tend to ignore these posts when someone doesn't put a verifiable name behind them.

The last line with a countdown to his release date (who else would even know what date some nobody gets out of jail) convinced me it was real enough to want to say something. I normally leave these posts alone regardless of whether they're real or not...but insinuating blame for a now disabled older woman was just too much.
