By adamg - 8/15/08 - 3:22 pm

UPDATE: Charges against the two men were dismissed. See the comments below for more.

Boston Police report arresting two men for a stabbing last night at Norvia's, 2805 Washington St..

Police say the victim was bouncing three guys out of the bar for fighting around 11:30 p.m. when they turned on him, knocked him to the ground and started kicking him. One of the three then pulled out a knife, police say, adding they also punched a man trying to pull them off the bouncer. The bouncer was taken to Boston Medical Center, expected to live.

Salvador Gamboa-Bocardo, 21, of Chicago, was charged with assault and batter by means of a dangerous weapon and assault and battery. Hazim D. Fennell, 33, of Boston, was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana.

In 2007, Fennell, a former Dorchester middle school teacher, pleaded no contest to helping to beat Boston middle-school students at a retreat at a Rhode Island church camp. Fennell kissing the 2004 World Series trophy.

Innocent, etc.

Hello,

Since you reported so enthusiastically on this story before you had any real facts and the people involved have their names forever tarnished by your little blog, maybe you should print something about the fact that it turned out that all charges were dropped and the bouncer actually was the one who did the stabbing.

Wouldn't that be the morally correct thing to do?

Thanks,

A concerned citizen

You are right about the charges

This is from the Suffolk County District Attorney's office:

The cases against both these defendants were dismissed in Roxbury court on Feb. 11. Additional investigation into the case, including the evaluation of additional witness statements that were unavailable at the time of the men's arrests, left prosecutors unable to meet their courtroom burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Though the case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning that the charges may be brought again in the future, we currently have no plans to prosecute either Mr. Gamboa-Bocardo or Mr. Fennell in connection with the Aug. 14 incident.

It's a shame that you

It's a shame that you reiterate what a police report says without input from any of the people involved in the incident. I don't trust BPD police reports empirically, particularly in African American and Latino neighborhoods. The first commenter is right- the bouncer was the one who actually did the stabbing, and then left the country.

You may be having fun with such snarky uninformed posts, but meanwhile you ruin people's livelihoods. Accordingly, I would take anything here with a grain of salt.
