Watch yourself around the Back Bay Fens

From HUPD:

Earlier this week, two female Emmanuel students along with a male colleague were involved in a very serious incident in the vicinity of Park Drive and Kilmarnock Street around midnight. All three students were assaulted and robbed by three unknown individuals, two male and one female, dressed in dark clothing.

The Boston Police Department was immediately notified of the incident and all three students were transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center by Boston EMS. The students were treated for injuries, one of which was a significant injury to the head, and subsequently released. The Boston Police Department is actively searching for the assailants.

... it's just me, but i was walking in that area shortly after dark recently, and it has gone from shady to scary. I always thought property values there were on the higher side. Apparently it isn't all that far of a walk from mission hill.

but I have always thought the Fens were a bad place to walk after dark. Was there a time you thought they weren't?

Park Drive and Kilmarnock Street is just an ordinary residential street corner. It's across from the park, but the report doesn't say that the victims were in the park.

Also, what does Mission Hill have to do with this?

Probably because Mission Hill is a dangerous neighborhood that abuts the Fens?

How so? It's full of doctors, other medical folks, and students these days...

Mission Hill has one dangerous Street - Parker...otherwise, your biggest danger is beer bottles flying out of windows from frat bois.

I walk down it all the time to go to Fuentes Market or to get to Qdoba. Seems fine to me. The Fuenteses are really nice, btw. I highly recommend the place for all your liquor-and-stuff needs.

At Park Drive & Kilmarnock? Is there a Harvard property there? I play ball there all summer, in the large park at that location, and I can't recall anything like that.

There are some residences in that area for Harvard Medical School and School of Public Health.

The cops that patrol the medical area campuses tend to hang out over on Louis Pasteur, close to where the incident occured. They might have been first responders.

the area has been infested with unsavory characters for years, but still it's not like it's theit fault for getting attacked. i can picture that end of the street and it would be pretty easy to be snuck up on. the area is much closer to fenway than mission hill if that helps you put things in perspective.

The handful of times i've been down Park St late at night, there's been loads of college kids hanging out on the steps of their buildings drinking and smoking.

I've felt safe enough being down there on the street... I probably wouldn't venture on to the park side of Park St late at night, but even then there would be plenty of people within earshot.

Weird.

Even though you said Park Street (which adjoins Boston Common), I assume you really mean Park Drive (which adjoins the Fens)?

and it was a dangerous area back then, too. Several people I knew, both students and teachers, who lived over in the Park Drive/Kilmarnock St. area, ended up being mugged or assaulted while walking home from the school at night.
