Boston Police report two Good Samaritans foiled a holdup at the Hungry I, 71 Charles St., last night:
According to witnesses, the suspect entered the restaurant with a bandana covering his face, walked over to the bar, put his hand under his shirt in such a way as to suggest he was in possession of a gun and stated, "Give me all your money." The victim then walked over to the cash registrar, grabbed the cash drawer and attempted to exit the restaurant. While the suspect was fleeing the restaurant, an employee of the restaurant yelled, "He has a gun." At this point, two individuals grabbed the suspect. A physical altercation ensued in which the suspect bit one of the individuals. The individuals were able to detain the suspect until the arrival of police.
Derek Kaufman, 37, of Stoughton, was then taken to a place where he'd have some time to chew over what he'd allegedly done - and to be charged with unarmed robbery.
Innocent, etc.
