It's just a matter of time
It's just a matter of time before something worse happens there. It's mayhem in the morning there on the sidewalk. As the BPD twitter often says, "avoid the area".
My heart goes out to the
My heart goes out to the person that has been nearly stabbed to death. Has anyone heard anything about the condition of this man who was stabbed at the shelter? Is head alive? Is he dead?
The metal detector here has been broken here for a very long time or at least since my visit here in the winter. The security person rolled their eyes at me when I was surprised that it did not go off when I carried my keys and umbrella through it. I thought to myself boy oh boy are they asking for trouble. I guess they got it. Their negligence is partially to blame for this attack.
In prisons we say that the only thing to fear more than a weapon is providing an opportunity for someone to use it. Now I know this shelter is not a prison, they just get great number of people visiting there who have been in prison. It does not make sense to me that they would be so horribly negligent. I simply cannot believe it.
Gary Black
I work at a public agency in Wakefield, MA (Gary Black's last known address), where I had two nerve-wracking encounters with Gary Black in the week before he knifed the man in the Boston shelter. Black verbally abused me and generally behaved in a menacing manner while deliberatly misusing our services. His victim could have been me or one of my co-workers. It's chilling in retrospect. I know he is currently undergoing psych evaluation, but I would be very interested in knowing the fate of his victim and the current disposition of this case.
Arrest made
Gary Black, 30, is scheduled for arraignment this morning in Boston Municipal Court on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which says his victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital.
Bail set; more details on attack
Gary Black was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail at his arraignment today, according to the Suffolk County DA's office.
Prosecutors say Black, himself homeless, walked into the center's recreation room around 2 p.m. and stabbed the victim five times in the legs, chest, back and face. The victim is in the Tufts Medical Center ICU but is not expected to survive, the DA's office says.
"I don't let nobody rip me off," he allegedly said after he was subdued by a security guard and a Boston police officer working a detail.
