Police: Armed desperado taken down in Mattapan Square

Boston Police report several officers chased and captured a wanted hood with a penchant for explosive violence this afternoon in the middle of Mattapan Square.

Police say a detective told local officers that Frantz Germain, 27, was walking around the farmer's market parking lot in Mattapan Square around 2 p.m. By the time officers arrived, Germain, wanted on a variety of warrants, including assault with intent to murder, had gotten into a Chevy, which they stopped at Cummins Highway and River Street:

Based on the information officers had received they directed the suspect to put his hands in plain view, the suspect however ignored officers’ orders and fled on foot.

One officer pursued the fleeing suspect, while the other detained the remaining occupants of the car. Numerous other officers responded to the scene and were able to catch and detain the fleeing suspect after a brief foot chase. Once in custody, officers observed that the suspect had a wad of money in one hand, and a black nylon piece of material with a ripped plastic bag. Once arrested, officers found two off white rocks substances determined to be crack cocaine in the plastic bag. Further pat frisk of the suspect revealed him to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic firearm.

Germain was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana and outstanding warrants for operating a motor vehicle without being licensed, resisting arrest, assault with intent to murder and assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

Innocent, etc.
