Gunslingers break up Brighton poker game
By adamg on Thu, 06/25/2009 - 9:38am
Wicked Local Allston/Brighton reports a pair of men with guns burst into a social club on June 18 and robbed three players of $560. The site says the police investigation was hampered when participants gave conflicting reports on what had happened; police say the club could now face trouble for running an illegal poker game.

Unofficial club?
That address does not have a signed club of the kind mentioned in the TAB article. But there are several stores at the address 380 Washington Street, and the TAB's story doesn't clarify which one was busted.
It is a long building (extending out back), with a long-unoccupied 2nd floor Tempo Dance Center, the popular CafeNation, and a furniture store called "Europe Today" which nobody in the neighborhood has ever seen anybody buy anything from. (Every once in a while a furniture truck makes deliveries to the store.) There was an electrical fire there out back in the past year.
One local thinks it is a front for the Russian mafia... maybe actually the Lebanese-American poker-playing mafia?
Social Club
In years past, there might have been some ethnically-stratified organized crime activity associated with this sort of thing.
Nowadays, it's mostly just old guys playing poker to pass the time. Their only "crime" in doing so is that they are not wearing tuxedos and paying the house at Foxwoods for the privilege.
This kind of thing always happens
