Man cuts woman with knife in failed downtown carjacking

Richard Morse is scheduled for arraignment this morning in Boston Municipal Court on charges he tried to carjack a woman on Province Street last night, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.

Morse "inflicted some minor injuries with a knife" on the Auburn woman but was caught by nearby valets and Boston Police before he could get away with the car, the DA's office says.

Why not

What better place to carjack than in front of the new zillion dollar condos...

valet recognition

if the valets played a role in foiling this, let's hope they get some recognition similar to that of the off-duty guard at MGH. I am sure the UH crowd will be all over the DA if they don't.

If they want to be heroes

They have to shoot the bad guy. Did they shoot the carjacker?

Channel 4 has more details

Channel 4 reports the guy jumped in the woman's car and began slashing at her with a knife when she started screaming. A valet at the condo project there saw what was happening and started whaling on the guy with an umbrella, which made him run away.

Boston Police account

Boston Police report the victim, a 61-year-old woman from Auburn, had just gotten her car from a valet at 45 Province when:

[S]he was approached by a white male who pushed her out of the driver's seat and into the passengers' area. The suspect entered her vehicle and sat in the driver's seat. She began to scream and the suspect punched her and removed a large knife and slashed at her. The victim sustained a laceration on her hand as a result. The victim attempted to scratch the suspect's face and he ordered her to shut up or he would kill her. The victim got out of the vehicle while the suspect was attempting to locate the car keys. At this time, the valet came to the victim's aid and attempted to remove the suspect from her car. The suspect stepped from the vehicle and swung the knife at the valet before grabbing the victim's purse and fleeing on foot. The valet pursued the suspect and observed him to enter an un-occupied vehicle on Washington Street and attempt to steal it. The valet again confronted the suspect causing him to exit the vehicle and continue to flee.

richard morse

there was not attempt to take a 2nd car and he did not slash her!!he just wanted the purse and not to kill!!drugs were the cause of his actions.not defending him and jail time is a must.but not the amount of time he got.get the facts right before writing them!!

How do you know all these details?

and why the post a full year later? just curious.

Held in lieu of $150,000 bail
