Police: Woman bitten, tackled in South End struggle over her cell phone and purse

Boston Police report that when Roberto Rodriguez, 24, attempted to grab a woman's purse on Upton Street around 5:40 p.m. yesterday, the woman fought back:

The victim was able to maintain her grip on her cell phone and was bitten on the hand by the suspect. The suspect then tackled the victim to the ground where a struggle ensued. Victims screams were heard by neighbors who then came outside and chased off the suspect but not before he escaped with the victim's property.

Police say officers found Rodriguez nearby, "breathing heavy." He was charged with unarmed robbery and assault and battery after the victims and witnesses ID'ed him, police say.

Innocent, etc.
