Man initially thought victim of mob beating now charged as crazed stab-happy attacker

A Lowell man found bleeding from his eyes and mouth on Comm. Ave. in Allston early Sunday was arraigned yesterday on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Police charge Monivireak Meas, 24, went berserk with a knife, possibly after an argument with his girlfriend, and that he stabbed a complete stranger in the chest on Comm. Ave. near the intersection with Brighton Avenue around 2 a.m.

When officers initially found Meas, his girlfriend told them a mob of men had descended on him and beat him senseless. Both were taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where police found a man with a stab wound who told police that he and three friend had been walking down Comm. Ave. when an Asian man with "crazy looking hair" who looked like he'd just been in a fight started mixing it up with them. According to the DA's office:

The officers went back to Meas, who was still at St. Elizabeth's and matched the description given by the stabbing victim. Meas told them that he pulled out a pocket knife and pointed it at the men, "but I don't know what happened." He also said he had thrown the knife into the street.

Boston Police detectives also responded to the hospital and presented the stabbing victim with a photo array that included Meas's picture. The victim identified Meas as the man who had stabbed him. Detectives then spoke to one of the victim's friends, a 21-year-old Boston man, who said that after the assailant had stabbed his friend once and was preparing to do so again, he blocked the assailant's arm and knocked the knife from his hand. That man also told detectives he threw the knife across the street.

According to the DA's office, police recovered the knife, coated with what appeared to be blood.

Innocent, etc.
