By adamg - 1/31/10 - 10:39 pm
Boston Police report that when a man refused to give a panhandler money around 1 p.m. on Saturday at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Warren Street, the guy tried to reach into the man's rear pocket and when the man sidestepped that move, the panhandler punched him in the face.
Guy Edwards, 47, of Roxbury, was charged with assault and battery and attempted unarmed robbery. The victim, 59, was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital for treatment of a swollen face and a bloody nose.
Innocent, etc.

That panhandler's got a case of
unfunded entitlement.
Meanwhile, that's some Philadelphia-style panhandling -- those people down there are pushy.
Ever been to san francisco?
Ever been to san francisco? They will stand in front of you and not let you pass if you dont give them money (or push them)
Nice bid...
...but the winner is Chicago. And I've been to SF. Can't speak for Philly.
Do you know why Chicago has aggressive homeless people? Because some liberal successfully argued that banning panhandling was a violation of freedom of speech. I'm all about the 1st Amendment...but your rights end at the tip of my nose. I have the right to not be accosted by an unkempt person begging me for money for nothing, and I expect that right to be enforced. That's one thing that this city gets right.
I'm all about the 1st
Apparently not, but that's not surprising. You're all for the 1st amendment, when it applies to you.
Pretty good summation of one of the disconnects of today’s conservative worldview. You have a right not to be assaulted, and you also have the right to ignore panhandlers.
I do ignore them
But they don't have the right to persist. They have the right to ask me for money one time.
Charity muggers
Look, if we're going to ban people from the sidewalks, can we start with a "Do you have a minute for the environment/children/equal rights/national forests/etc." people?
One advantage of getting older
I noticed the other day in Copley Square the Save the Children kids all ignored me in favor of people closer to their own age.
what, another story about the banks?
but they manage to get their/our money.
