One arrested at East Boston gang battleground
District A-7 reports a Chelsea man was arrested on a knife charge after officers spotted some guys in gang colors acting suspiciously on their arrival at Meridian and White streets shortly after 8 p.m. on April 10:
This corner has been plagued and vandalized by feuding rival gangs for the most recent weeks. Officers observed that all persons above were conspicuously wearing red clothing articles which are known to be associated with the "blood(s)" gang. One suspect observed officers and nervously reached into his vest pocket and fled into the variety store.
A-7 says officers found nothing suspicious on him, but on conducting a pat frisk of his companion, Mariano Hernandez, 21, they found three plastic bags with an herb-like substance and "a steak knife wrapped in a red bandana."
Hernandez was then arrested and charged for repeated possession of a knife with a blade longer than 2.5 inches.

Gang Battleground?
I have lived about 10 houses away from the corner of White and Meridian for 5 years and never once saw anything akin to a "gang battleground" there. There was some graffiti about 2 months ago and I had never seen that before either. I park my car near that corner and catch the bus there at all times of the day and late into the night.
I grew up in this area and
I grew up in this area and for about the past 10 years this is were several gangs hang out(i.e bloods, MS, 18 Street).
well then
well there obviously is gang activity in that area of east boston so you should be careful around your neighborhood at night

Wow, sensationalism much? I've lived down the street from that corner for a year now, and I also regularly get off the bus there. It's a barbershop, for christ's sake, AND it's on a well-lit, highly trafficked street. Busses, taxis, cops, and tons of regular people go down Meridian Street constantly. A guy being arrested for carrying a knife there does not make it a gang battleground. I'm getting really tired of people taking things about my neighborhood and blowing them out of proportion.
