Police say woman fends off would-be attacker in South Boston

Boston Police reports a woman was on W. 5th St. around 2 a.m. on Sunday when a man approached, said "Hi, baby" and then indecently assaulted her:

As a result, the victim, in an effort to defend herself, kicked the suspect.

He then ran away, police say. He's described as Hispanic, late 20s, 5'7" or 5'8" with a medium build and dark hair and wearing dark clothes.

Does getting kicked, spike heeled, elbowed, and otherwise damaged while attempting to grope or assault a woman make an attacker less likely to attack other women?

I don't know for certain, but I'd like to think that if a bunch of us had come upon the gropers on Marion Path the other day and issued a short beat down before we called the cops, that it might have made those two a-holes think twice about doing it again.

I was once in that situation a long, long time ago when we witnessed a purse snatching down by the old Arbuckles on Comm. by Harvard Ave. - I delivered a Darius Kasparaitis-quality hip check, and others then, er, "held" the perp until the BPD got there. I was a bit concerned that they were going to give us trouble of our own for roughing the guy up, but instead we got a "nice job, guys, we'll take it from here" and the one cop single-handedly, and in one motion, put this sucker into the wagon. I can still hear the sound that he made when he landed, and I have to believe that after the whole experience, he at least thought twice about doing it again.

Glad the guy didn't put up a fight...that might have turned out worse.
