That looks like Readville on the map.

Looks to be about a half-mile away, so he could probably hear all the sirens from his backyard.

Actually, I live closer to that intersection (right off Readville ST) and I heard nothing, no sirens, no loud noises, completely quiet.

It should have been loud. There was about 15 bpd/state cops that responded to the situation.

That area isn't even near the really 'Bad' part of Hyde Park, which is along the American Legion Highway/Hyde Park Ave corridor nearer to Mattapan and JP./Forest Hills. But it does connect Washington street W. Roxbury/Roslindale with Hyde Park so it doesn't surprise me. But the ghetto is spreading all over this city and Greater Boston now, so nothing surprises me. Where the 'Bad' neighborhoods and violent crime were once fairly confined to 2-3 neighborhoods, in 2010 shit happens all over, from Providence/New Bedford to Manchester,NH/Lowell/Lawrence. There is not a single neighborhood in the city were I wouldn't be surprised to hear about some crime occurring that would have surprised me even just 10 years ago.

I currently live over by Truman Parkway near the Milton line, 2 blocks from the Fairmont Commuter Rail Line and it's 'Urban' but still quiet as can be, but I realize I'm just a few miles from murderpan.

I take my daughter to this pool that this happened at almost every weekend. It is in a VERY peaceful area of HP which lies between Dedham and West Roxbury. Lately I have noticed SO many teens (mostly boys) hanging around outside the pool like it's downtown. There are way too many of them just hanging around arguing, talking and picking up girls. There used to be a state trooper who parked his car in the back since it's state property, but parking in the back makes no sense. The crap going on in happening out front in the parking lot not in the back. They just re-modeled the pool too, but it is getting over crowded and the staff that work there are kids themselves. It is so unfortunate what happened. I love Hyde Park! I wonder why the story didn't make the news on TV. There were 100's of children that were scared by the commotion. Half of them probably didn't know what happened, but they shut the pool down looking for the shooter. 15 state and BPD cops were driving around and there were 3 ambulances. My daughter is only 6 and she was scared with the commotion. Hopefully they will do a better job monitoring the loitering that is happening outside these suppose to be safe recreation environments.
