'Sweet odor' of Chinese food helps lead cops to suspect in South Boston food-delivery robbery

Boston Police report arresting James J. Williams, 17, on charges he used a large kitchen knif to hold up a guy making a delivery of Chinese food at 8 Sterling Sq. around 9:30 last night.

Police say that not long after the robbery was reported, officers noticed a guy matching the description of the robber a couple blocks away, at Dorchester Avenue and Kemp Street:

Officers noticed that the suspect had a sweet odor much like that of Chinese food and also observed him to be in possession of a bottle of Coke, the same type reported to have been stolen from the delivery driver. The suspect reported that he was coming from a friend's house when questioned but could not say where the friend lived. The suspect, once told that he was being detained for a victim identification, exclaimed, "There's no need for that, I did it!"

Police say officers recovered the Chinese food he allegedly stole down the street from where he was arrested.

Innocent, etc.
