You can only use a metal rod to beat somebody if he's trying to rob you

Boston Police report arresting a South Boston teenager early this morning on charges he used an extendable metal baton to beat some guys with whom he and his pals had been allegedly arguing earlier in the evening.

Brendan Niedzwiecki, 19, was charged with OUI and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon after allegedly beating three guys at 700 E. 7 St. with the baton - one of them hard enough to require an ambulance ride to the hospital.

Police say officers were aided in their search by the unusual nature of his car - it had a fin on the trunk.
