Somerville man charged with shooting gun in Roxbury, then trying to drive away from police
Boston Police report arresting an alleged gun-toting speedster from Somerville and his young ward from Dorchester last night after officers heard the sound of gunfire around 11 p.m. on Melnea Cass Boulevard near Brook Marshall Road.
Police say the officers gave chase but that the guy got into a Honda that promptly sped away toward Tremont Street. Police say officers caught up with the car on Albert Street, on the other side of Tremont, and that several occupants tried to run away.
Police say officers collared Demetrius Aaron, 18, of Dorchester, and charged him with disorderly conduct. They then caught up with the alleged driver, Girold Grand-Pierre, 25, of Somerville:
As the Sergeant Detective pursued suspect Grand-Pierre, he observed the suspect holding his waist area consistent with a person concealing a firearm. As suspect Grand-Pierre approached a dumpster, he pulled his hands away from his waist area and went towards the dumpster. At that time, the pursuing officer heard a noise consistent with metal striking metal. The officer notified operations that there may be a firearm in the dumpster and continued to maintain a visual on both the dumpster and suspect GrandPierre, who subsequently ran toward Annunciation Road.
Police say officers found a loaded .22-caliber firearm and a loaded .38-caliber snub-nose firearm. They eventually found Grand-Pierre on a nearby roof and arrested him on charges of two counts of assault by means of dangerous weapon (firearm), two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, two counts of unlawful possession 2nd and subsequent and refusal to submit to a police officer.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports Grand-Pierre was ordered held in lieu of $20,000 bail today following his arraignment in Roxbury District Court. If he posts bail, he must wear a GPS tracking device and stay out of Boston. Grand-Pierre got 2 1/2 years in jail following a gun conviction in 2007 for an incident at Ruggles and Washington streets.
At a hearing today in Roxbury District Court, the charge against Aaron was dismissed for lack of probable cause. He is currently out on $2,500 bail on charges of assault and battery, armed robbery, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for his alleged role in a stabbing at the Downtown Crossing T stop. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports he is due in court on May 13 on that case.
Innocent, etc.
