Drug dealers work late hours

A Dorchester man was arraigned yesterday on charges of being an armed career criminal after police found a gun and more than two dozen bags of crack in his Dorchester apartment, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Armed with, among other things, a search warrant, Boston Police raided Sean Young's 104 Topliff St. apartment around 11 a.m. - just as Young was getting up for the day - the DA's office says. Police found a .45 caliber Taurus Millennium semiautomatic handgun loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, a bag of crack, a scale and, inside a pair of shorts on the floor, 25 "plastic bags of crack cocaine individually packaged for retail sale."

Police also seized cash and three cell phones, the DA's office reports.

Dorchester District Court Judge Michael Coyne set Young's bail at $100,000 on charges of trafficking in cocaine between 14 and 27 grams, violating the state's drug laws within 1000 feet of the John Marshall Elementary School, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He was also charged as a Level 1 armed career criminal because of convictions in 2006 for unlawful firearm possession and possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance.
