Dorchester man charged with being armed, drunk and stupid

Boston Police charge an allegedly drunk Dorchester man with a violent past used a gun to threaten some guy he'd gotten into an argument with yesterday afternoon.

Shaun Bailey, 42, faces a variety of charges, including carrying a firearm while intoxicated and being an armed career criminal. Other charges include illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

According to police, Bailey and the other man had a verbal disagreement shortly before 5 p.m. outside 2 Bowdoin St.:

During the course of the argument the suspect pulled a gun out of his pocket and brought it to waist level in an apparent effort to scare/threaten the victim. Several witnesses confirmed the victim’s account of the incident and officers also learned that the suspect clearly smelled of alcohol and appeared to be intoxicated.

Arriving officers were greeted by several helpful witnesses, who described Bailey and pointed out the direction in which he'd taken off:

The observed male was walking on the sidewalk and had a noticeable sag in his right pocket and the suspect walked with a stiff right arm with his hand inside his right front pant pocket. Officers having been trained in the characteristics of an armed gunman made note of the suspect and believed to be armed especially in light of the nature of the call. As officers approached the suspect in their unmarked cruiser, the suspect began to cross the street, and as he did so officers observed him holding a solid black object resembling a gun. At that time officers, officers jumped out of their car and yelled, “Boston Police! Let me see your hands!” The suspect at that time took off running followed by officers all the while holding what was clearly now a gun in hand. The suspect continued onto Wheatland Ave.running followed by officers. In front of 7 Wheatland Ave., officers saw the suspect throw the firearm into the air in an attempt to discard it. The suspect was caught in front of15 Wheatland Ave.and the gun which had fallen apart recovered as a result of being thrown in front of 7 Wheatland Avenue.

Bailey was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bail at his arraignment in Dorchester District Court today, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports, adding Bailey earned the charge of being an armed career criminal thanks to prior convictions for gun possession and armed robbery.

Innocent, etc.
