Police: Drunken Cape man brought loaded gun to bar fight with a cop, but decided to use his fists instead

Boston Police report arresting a pair of Mass. College of Pharmacy students on charges they tried to fight their way into Whiskey's, 885 Boylston St., early Saturday.

Police say that around 12:15 a.m. the bar refused to let Ryan Powderly, 22, of Sandwich, and Alex Corbett, 23, because they were already drunk. When a detail officer told them to leave, police say, they began yelling at him, demanding to know if they realized whom he was dealing with and whether he had bullets in his gun.

When the officer told the suspects that their decision to remain on the property would ultimately lead to their arrest, one of the suspects began yelling racial epithets and insults at the officer, as well as, employees of the establishment. Throughout the incident, both suspects directed a steady stream of obscenities and expletives at the officer and employees of the establishment.

When the officer informed the suspects that they were being placed under arrest, one of the suspects swung at the officer's head and a physical altercation ensued. With help from the staff at the establishment, the officer was able to subdue both suspects until back-up units arrived.

Police say that on a search, officers found a loaded gun on Powderly. He was charged with carrying a loaded firearm while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.

Corbett was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.

Innocent, etc.

With an arrest like that they're not going get a pharmacist license. They make it pretty clear with posters in resident life areas that if you screw up off campus and get a record you can kiss you future as a pharmacist goodbye (well, at least a legal pharmacist).

I know both of these gentlemen and can vouch for both of them being not only good students, but good people in general. There is more to this story than meets the eye. People fail to realize how often police blow things out of proportion and twist events in their favor. I can assure you that you do not simply get into pharmacy school by chance. Alex and Ryan would not have waited until their fifth year of pharmacy school to start acting like the fools they have been portrayed as. The events reported were most definately exaggerated at the very least. Nobody just swings at at someone unprovoked, let alone a police officer. The gun, (which Ryan has a license for) is what put this all over the edge.
