Mission Hill residents learn only David Letterman allowed to throw things off a roof

Boston Police report arresting four 20something men - at least one a Northeastern student - on charges they tossed propane tanks, bottles and at least one chair on a police officer from a Parker Street roof early this morning.

Police say a cop doing a traffic detail at Parker and and Tremont around 1:50 a.m. was startled when a small green propane bottle hit the ground near him.

Upon seeing the propane tank hit the ground, the officer immediately sought out the object’s direction of flight. The officer promptly activated his flashlight and fixed its beam on a rooftop in the area of 717 Parker Street. Upon illuminating the rooftop, officers observed several individuals scurry for cover. When officers instructed the individuals to stop throwing items from the roof, several more items – including a wooden chair, another propane tank and several bottles – came raining down from the roof. Upon entering the building, officers were able to locate the apartment roof deck from which the items were being thrown. Once inside the apartment, officers made their way to the outdoor deck where officers located four individuals lying on the ground in an effort to conceal themselves.

Thomas Duff, 21, Joseph Miskewicz, 22, Sean Bonanno, 21 and Vincent Nguyen, 21, were all charged with being disorderly, resisting arrest, assault by means of dangerous weapons (bottles, propane tanks, wooden chair) and willful and malicious destruction of property.

This is the second time this week police had to deal with a fusillade of rooftop projectiles. NorthEndWaterfront.com reports police arrested a guy in the North End on charges he lobbed three beer bottles at an officer from a rooftop party.

Innocent, etc.

The cop told you no, and you kept doing it anyway. Probation for the kid who rats on his buddies, and 30 days in jail for each of the other three.

(bangs gavel)

Let's throw stuff at the cop! He'll never know it's coming from us up on the roof!! Tee Hee !

Sounds like fun when you're a sh*tfaced college kid.

Some BU students - Silber's tenants, actually - climbed from the adjacent roof to the roof of my MIT living group and started pitching bricks off at some cops. The cops came storming in to find that the house manager had u-locked the hatch to keep certain people of low judgement from "experiencing" the storm from the roof (and to keep it from leaking into the 4th floor)... he let the cops up just as the shitheads were heading back to their own roof and down into their space. Don't know if the cops dared to raid their apartments, though.

for sharing your personal story from 26 years ago

We know that nobody in Greater Boston has ever experienced anything that you haven't.

We all know that nobody in Boston is as brave as you now.

Never mind that, these days, they would have just arrested everyone in the house without looking further, no?

30 years ago they would have beaten up the brick throwers and probably a few non-brick throwers.
