Gunfire erupts in Roxbury, Dorchester

A night of gunfire and bloodshed across the two neighborhoods left one person near death, three others shot and bullets riddling streets and apartments. Around 10:30 p.m., Boston Medical Center declared its trauma beds full and shut its emergency room to new trauma cases; a victim from a double shooting on Devon Street was diverted to Brigham and Women's Hospital.

That shooting was the most serious. Police responded to Devon Street around 10:20 p.m. on reports of several shots fired.

Police found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg around the corner on Brunswick Street - and a blood trail from Devon to his location. Another man, shot in the neck, according to AlertNewEngland, was driven in a car headed to Boston Medical Center. His injuries were so bad the homicide unit was called in just in case he dies.

A black man in a blue hoodie was spotted running away.

Boston Police brought in officers from across the city to help with the investigation and secure the crime scene.

Around 9 p.m., police responded to 180 Ruggles St. in Roxbury after an officer in the area spotted two men running from what they told him was a guy who'd shot at him, Brian D'Amico reports. A nearby resident found a bullet in her apartment; police were looking for a black Camry with tinted windows.

About 50 minutes later, two people who said they'd been shot on Ruggles Street turned up - a woman who told housing police at 190 Ruggles that she'd been grazed by a bullet and a woman who showed up at Boston Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Around 8:55 p.m., police responded to Regent Street in Roxbury, on reports of shots fired. Moments later, an officer collared four suspects, AlertNewEngland reports.

Around 8:45 p.m., police responded to reports of up to 16 shots at Nottingham and Bullard streets in Dorchester. Witnesses spotted two cars - a red Cadillac and a black sedan that might have been a Maxima - fleeting the scene.

Around 11:10 p.m. a Chinese-food delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint at Blue Hill Avenue and Warren Street by two men and a woman. All were described as black, in their late 20s and wearing dark hoodies.

Also see report on earlier shooting on Northampton Street.

I miss hello kitty when gun violence puts four neighbors in the hospital, one near death, 3 with bullet holes.

The police reports released of interviews at the drug lab are a nightmare. The holes in protocol and security that allowed Dookin to escape detection could have allowed others to do the same. Juries will be in doubt about any tests done at the lab.

With all these drug dealers back on the streets, scores will be settled with informants and turf wars will explode if the drug kingpins can't contain disputes.

Drug "kingpins" usually get held and convicted on violent crime charges. They won't be getting out.

Mules and street workers get hit with the drug charges, most often. Their bosses stay insulated - that's how it works.

Paranoid toxic imagination says that "all drug offenses = violent offenders = drug "kingpins"" - when we all know that non-violent drug-only charges have filled our prisons with expensive prisoners for long sentences, that the low level people are the bulk of this, and yet the "drug war" continues ... Perhaps MA will just be cutting its losses to the hysterical stupidity here.

I'm glad you cover Boston crime because there is no mention of any of this anywhere on Boston.com

I mean, I really do LOVE that I have the option at BDC to click through some ad-revenue-inducing tripe to see whether Niki Minaj (sp?) or Beyonce sent a certain ridiculous tweet. That is SO much better than learning that there was a running gun battle in the city last night.

And they wonder why traditional journalism is having trouble finding its niche...

At least, not in any obvious place like page A1 or B1 where it would belong. I haven't looked at every inside page yet.

WTF was in the air yesterday? Nottingham and Bullard? That's my neighborhood and while it's off of some iffy areas, it's pretty boring up there save for the occassional loud party.
