Police: South Boston man tries robbing bank, gets taken down by bank customer

Boston Police report that when officers responded to the Citizens Bank branch at 77 Franklin St. for a possible robbery this afternoon, they found a man being held down by other people.

Police say Dana Werrick, 50, of South Boston, entered the bank around 1:30, told a teller he had a gun and demanded $300. A man at a neighboring teller station heard that, police say:

The male witness stated that at that point he jumped on the suspect and a fight ensued. The witness was able to subdue the suspect and hold him until officers arrived.

Police say officers did not find a gun but that because he said he had one, Werrick was charged with armed bank robbery.

Innocent, etc.

If you're going to rob a bank, why limit your upside? Why not say, Give me all your money?

The other customer didn't have a gun. No sense going to a gunfight with a rock.

In my experience, Southie is a good place to go for a beer and a beating. Probably just a sad junkie from the suburbs whose mouth wrote a check his body couldn't cash.
