Man robbed of iPad at gunpoint at Jackson Square

Wanted

Transit Police report a man waiting for an inbound Orange Line at Jackson Square was robbed around 12:50 p.m. on Saturday. After taking his iPad4 at gunpoint, the robber fled toward Bromley-Heath, police say.

He's described as black, between 18 and 22, with a medium build, wide cornrows, slight facial hair and an earring in his right ear. He wore gray stonewashed jeans with a large white belt and a black hoodie. If you see him, contact Transit Police at 617-222-1050 or text a tip to 873873.

Robbing people in the street, on buses and subway stations is how many guys who live in the projects make $. Or when they want some sh*t, they just go out and rob and steal someone else's sh*t.

You'd be well advised to not 'show off' anything valuable, especially phones, IPADS, Dre headphones, etc., when geographically located near a housing project.

...is some sort of force to police the transit system. A "transit police", if you will. I mean, the guys who guard the 4-square-feet of ground inside the turnstiles at Back Bay, or go to Porter once a month to do stupid bag checks, are needed right where they are, I'm sure, but I can't help think there's a better way.

Money does not GROW on trees, you want more police which cost money. Union Officers at that, but when they talk about fair increases you kick and scream.

Not MORE police so much as halfway-intelligent deployment of the police that are there.

Union issue, do you remember they found about 50 MBTA employees who lied about having their GED's/Diploma's. Did they get fired Fu*k NO, their in the Union. They asked them to attend a GED class at night.

Why have seven officers on patrol throughout the system when you can have seven of them standing in one random subway station performing the latest act of Security Theatre? I mean, everyone knows it takes at least six of them to check every fifteenth (or whatever) bag, and one to follow anyone who refuses a check well out of the station, not to mention another three or four TSA workers and at least two dogs.

Seriously though, what an utter waste of fare and taxpayer resources. It does absolutely nothing for security on the MBTA.

A lot of people who don't live in housing projects rob people too.

Most people who live in housing projects are just trying to work and raise their families. Jeez.

A prior commenter mentioned that perhaps a Transit oriented police force would help here.

In all seriousness, I often see 3-4 MBTA/Transit Officers standing in a circle and talking at Back Bay station and/or Down Town Crossing.

Now, I am sure those are high crime stations, but it me these officers appear more focused on the story they are telling, and their coffee than they are looking for suspicious stuff.

But I hate to judge something I don't know much about. Does anyone have any insight- is there an undercover officer on the platform, and this 4-some is pretending to be distracted so the undercover officer can catch perps in the act?

Are they pretending to listen to each other's recounting of the B's game, or their kids hot teacher, but they are really stealthily searching for the kids who beat up the bus-driver?

If they are just hanging out as 'presence', then couldn't they at least split into 2 pairs and cover a lot more ground? I'd love to know a bit more about what's going on. What I se doesn't look good.

Two stops I've seen them at are Ruggles, and Kendall. The only crimes I've seen them witness have been incidents of fare evasion.
