Man shot in Codman Square, taken away in bad shape

Stanley Staco reports a man was shot around 5:15 p.m. at 535 Washington St. Because of the victim's condition, homicide detectives were summoned, just in case.

A car spotted fleeing from the scene was registered to somebody in Roslindale, and about an hour later, police began investigating a car and possible witnesses at the McDonald's on American Legion Highway in Roslindale.

Homicide also notified for Wayland Street for the shooting around 8 pm. How many murdered in "One City" since the marathon, Adam? I notice the other media outlets are dutifully keeping the mayhem out of the news. I haven't seen it this bad here in years.

Heartily agree with Fishy here for a change. There really have been quite a lot of "incidents" since Marathon Monday. My media watching is strictly internet-based so it's not the best indicator, but I haven't seen a whole lot of mention of it in the papers either. UHub is where I'm hearing about it. Do we have a body count for that time period? Also an incident count, as there have been a number of shootings and stabbings that haven't resulted in deaths (or city-wide lockdowns, house to house searches, helicopters, small army larger than some countries' roaming the streets, etc.).

O-Fish I believe there have been a lot of shootings but before tonight there may have been 1 or no murders at all since before Marathon Monday. Boston has a really low murder rate for a major US city with an average of 60 murders a year since 2000. That is not a lot for a city that has 625,000 people, and many thousands of students that are not reflected in those census numbers. We do have a higher rate of Homicide per capita than New York, but for the major cities Seattle, San Diego,San Francisco and maybe Denver are the only major cities that usually post lower yearly murder rates. Miami, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, LA,Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, New Orleans, DC, Baltimore, Cleveland, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Memphis, St Louis, Phoenix, all have much worse Murder and Crime rates. Also a majority of those cities have double and triple the murder rates per capita of Boston. We can't keep pretending we don't have the same problems in Boston that every other major city has in America. Yes this violence is bad, but I wouldn't blow it out of proportion. We live in one of the safest major cities in America. Go on vacation and you will come back and appreciate the lower crime rates that we have here in our city.

Not to detract from your basic point - Boston is no Baltimore - but there were two murders last week" Dudley Street and Copeland Street. One of them came the same night as five other shootings and a gunfight between two cars that amazingly didn't seem to result in any injuries.

If we could save one person's life in Boston a year by expanding background checks to close loopholes, and make interstate gun trafficking a serious federal crime with jail time would you vote yes for it? Would you elect a statewide candidate who supports gun safety and regulations that keep guns out of the hands of criminals? I would. Vote Tuesday.

More over here.

Boston for a major top tier U.S. city and metro area has a relatively low violent crime rate. Places like Miami, Atlanta, D.C., Baltimore are far worse. Most U.S. cities big and small that I've traveled to or lived in have pretty serious violent and non-violent crime problems. I think on average the smaller cities have even worse problems than big cities like Boston. Traveled around the whole U.S. for decades now, and the decline in this country is obvious and plain to see for anyone who opens their eyes. Even the suburban areas are not what they used to be. The rural areas are dead, not dying, dead.

And I question San Franciso being safer than Boston. I've lived there and have visited many times, have friends there. It's got a crime problem, a huge homeless problem, and is surprisingly for many visitors a dirty city. Even the area around civic center and city hall is actually pretty sketchy, although it's been getting better and isn't as bad as it was in the recent past. And some of the surrounding cities, not just in east bay, are shitholes, too. I'm not saying Boston doesn't have similar issues, it does, too.
