That's 3 dead from gun violence in Roxbury alone since April 17. How many shot dead in all of Boston?

You can look here to see the number of Americans shot dead in the USA since Dec 14. You can also use that webpage to see how people were killed by gunshot in any city since December 14 -- the date of the Newtown CT gun massacre.

Two pieces of federal legislation could slow the flow of illegal handguns into Massachusetts from weak gun law states, (currently more illegal guns seized in Boston are traced back to Tennessee than any other weak gun law state);

  • expanded background checks and
  • making interstate gun trafficking punishable with jail time.

9 out of 10 Americans support this bill, which is an insanely high level of support. And yet, 46 senators opposed this bill because TheyDontWorkForYou .org, they work for the NRA. Check it out and click on the links to let these senators know you demand common sense action on gun safety.

If you don't think gun violence, intentional and accidental, is out of hand read this: NY Post: Kentucky girl, 2, fatally shot in chest by 5-year-old brother: police

Gotta love spambots and law-abiding criminals who would put down their illegal guns as soon as they realize their illegal guns are in fact illegal.

That chart is worthless without per capita. Canada actually has worse gun crime than the US on a per population basis. Surprised the heck out of me when I saw it.

Even US crime is limited to a few very small areas. Remove them are we are safer than fricken Switzerland.

Not to wade into a hot button issue, but I just checked Canada's population, which is roughly 34 million.

Based on that, 144 shootings would equate to roughlly 1 shooting for every 236,000 citizens.

Based on the US population of roughly 311 million, 9367 shooting deaths works out to 1 in roughly 33,000.

By my math, Americans are more than 7 times more likely to die at the hand of a gun, than Canadians. Where am I going wrong?

Anonymous posted a more worldly list in another thread. If I remember correctly, Brazil has more gun violence than the US, as do some other countries. The person who made this chart got to the US, then stopped. They didn't bother going on to show other countries.

Out of 9,369 gun deaths, how many were caused by law-abiding gun owners, and how many were due to law-abiding criminals who will give up their illegal guns the moment they're made more illegal? Out of those, how many had prior gun-related arrests? How about we implement some thug control measures before we start talking about gun control?

9,369 gun deaths also included suicides.

More laws are sure to do something against people that don't follow them in the first place.

How's that drug war working for you?

Where is Brazil on that list they have a really high murder rate from guns/ How about Russia the have a murder rate three times the US? Oh yeah that is right those countries are bigger in population and would be more accurate in comparison. That wouldn't help disguise the propaganda!

Brazil and Russia are also both significantly poorer and have completely different social structures than the United States does. Brazil, despite the progress it has made, is still a very third world country. Russia too has vast areas that are nothing but third world. Beat it, you useless troll.

Out of curiosity, what is it that drives you people to pop into discussions about gun violence with spittle-flecked rage, demanding that we add as many surplus weapons to the population as we possibly can? I mean, even if we ignore the obvious reality and pretend that arming everyone will somehow reduce the violent crime rate (just like it did in Somalia and Nevada circa 1840, natch)... a man just died, and there's a wave of violence sweeping through Roxbury. Show a little respect. Or at least crawl back into your respective holes until we're talking about policy instead of neighborhoods that people here actually live in.

On a related note, are you ever going to get rid of anonymous posting, Adam? It's a stone-cold bastard to run a kill-file when most of the really insane stuff is coming from a single anonymous user.

They're polar opposites and are extremely passionate about their views. It seem as though there's the group who wants no one to have guns. This group see them as only something used to kill and cause crime.

Then there are the gun nuts. This groups seems to want guns to exercise their 2a (as I've seen it posted on other sites), are afraid of the government taking them over, and want to protect their families (since the police take too long to respond).

These two groups never seem to want to listen to one another, and instead choose to attack each other at every chance they get.

I myself enjoy shooting guns and always have. Learned how to shoot when I was very young, and caught hell once for carrying an unloaded rifle the wrong way. I'm sick of the illegal gun use going on, and also sick of going through a rectal exam just to shoot targets at the local gun club.
