Gunman shoots up Dorchester street

Police are looking for a white Chevy Malibu or Impala in connection with gunfire on Leroy Street around 11:35 p.m. The car stopped at the corner of Ditson and Leroy, a man got out, walked a few doors down to 27 Leroy and fired a gun five or six times.

He ran back to the car, got in the back seat and he and three other people already in the car sped away. He's described as a black man in a dark hoodie and dark jeans.

Police found gun damage to a car outside the house.

Adam Myerson lives at Ditson and Leroy and reports:

Heard 5-6 shots, car speeding away. ... [T]he car was parked at the end of my driveway, which faces Leroy.

It's actually 25 Leroy St. Two young men from that house went to jail on drugs and weapons charges in 2011. They were released earlier this year and are now back on the street, wreaking havoc. They, or they associate were the target. On any warm day, the front step of their house is the gathering spot for the most troubled kids in the neighborhood. Sort of a who's who in the hood.

Their favorite sport: Street racing on a dirt bike- Up and down the one way streets, sidewalks etc. It goes on from around 1:00 PM (the time they get out of bed?) until whenever they get tired of it. They sometime ride it with a scarf on their face, as if about to rob a bank. Frequent calls to the police regarding the dirt bike activity seems to have no effect. They were doing the same thing for two years in a row before they went to jail, with the same green dirt bike! I guess once they got released, they just pulled it out of the basement, dusted it off a bit, put gas in the tank, and got on their merry way.

Multiple attempts to reach the probation officer and the DA's office have yielded no results. Five calls to both offices over the past two weeks, five voice mails, not one call got returned. Everybody from the mayor, to the police commissioner, to the DA talks about the importance of community involvement. It doesn't look like the message is trickling down too well. That's unfortunate.

You don't happen to have this movie on VHS do you?

Just curious, in your book how is any of this not their "business"? It sounds like this is their neighborhood. How is someone racing dirtbikes on their street (which is illegal) not their business? How is a neighbor's house getting shot up not their business? Do you think that any of this is normal?

When u put out more info than the cops do ... they get paid for that do u??? Its Jurassic park after dark anyways #dorchester

is like trying to play chess with a pigeon. He'll ignore the rules, knock over the pieces, crap all over the board, and then strut around as though he had won the game.

(Not my words, I don't know whom to cite, though.)

Ah, so this is your way of saying that people don't have any business telling the police about criminal activity and the police should be left to find it by themselves? Its only "jurasic park after dark" in Dorchester because some people who live there choose to make it that way. Its not some inherent trait of the neighborhood or an inherent trait of everyone who lives there. Most people who live there choose not to make it that way. Illegally racing dirt bikes and shooting up other people's houses are just bad choices. The people who do those things could live nice lives and not worry about having someone shoot up their house (or their family's house) or where there next meal is coming from or things like that. There is a world of opportunity out there. People who do things like this just choose not to participate in it, and they live worse lives for it. "Snichin" on those people is the right thing to do, because it teaches them the consequences of their bad choices. It also shows some self respect for yourself and your neighborhood. If you aren't going to make your neighborhood a better place, no one will - its not their job.

They don't like snitchin' but they sure do like letting the police take them to the ER when they're bleeding from a shot to the stomach!

And it's exactly this kind of attitude that keeps Dorchester like a third-world country. For everyone person the lefty media holds up as a "awww, look at this community, full of people trying to improve things," there's 3 people who just don't give a $h1#.

Even more than reversed - it only takes a handful of thugs to screw up a neighborhood of hundreds of decent people.

But I get it anon - it's easier to be cynical (and let yourself off the hook wrt making any difference) if you choose to believe that most people are lame, all evidence to the contrary.

In fact, there's probably no more than one thug per 500 decent folks. Unfortunately, our wonderful justice system does everything in its power to ensure those thugs don't get locked up. Why do we have thugs who had more than ten drug and gun-related arrests over the past two or three years roaming free, terrorizing their neighborhoods?

I lose all sympathy I may have had for these young fools. Not a lick of respect for anyone or anything, especially the English language. It suits me just fine if you keep killing each other. All I ask is that you don't hurt any innocent bystanders. You won't be missed.

Ya herd!

aren't marksmen. Otherwise the problem would have been solved when they were shot three years ago.:)

We have a long summer ahead of us and I fear there is only more to come. It's only a mater of time before an innocent bystander is shot. Cause apparently the police, DA, and probation dept. don't give a shit.

Fool that has time to do a lot of research... reality is you can't learn shit about these streets through a web search ...LOL...mean while the summer didn't even start yet :-) sunny days stormy nights

Next time you're shooting a fellow thug or getting shot by one, please ensure the gun is held straight as opposed to sideways and is aimed directly at the center of the forehead from as short of a distance as possible prior to pulling the trigger. Additionally, please ensure the trigger is only pulled ONCE. That way innocent bystanders, cars and/or houses won't get hit by stray rounds, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts won't have to shell out a million or two to have BMC put you or your fellow thug back together. Thank you, and have a wonderful day.

tsk, don't you know you always aim for center of mass?

You're gonna have that Herald card taken away from you with that sort of poor gun knowledge.

That gets you a very expensive taxpayer-sponsored BMC visit and a repeat performance a few months down the road, which is exactly what we're trying to avoid. Also, aiming for the percieved center of mass will most likely result in the bullet harmlessly passing through the (empty) saggy pants and oversized hoodie, at least a foot too low.

My young brothers, u have ur whole life ahead of u, don't u want to leave a legacy behind for ur children and younger siblings? don't u want to travel anywhere in boston without the fear of being hurt? I am just as young as most of u and I know the pain of losing too too many of my family and friends, this is the pain ur family is going to feel when God forbid something should happen to u. I come in peace and with total respect, rest assure i'm sincere when I tell u I love u and I need u to survive. Violence begets violence and the only true way to conquer the violence around us is to conquer the violence within. Have compassion and forgive ur enemies, surely they want to forgive u too because quiet as kept no one wants to die. Have courage, give that energy u channel into hate to be the leader in ur neighborhood and bring about a change. I will continue to pray for u and the rest of my handsome brothers that have seem to have lost their way. Once again, I love u and I need u to survive. I am 24 year old girl who nearly lost her life being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have never harmed anyone but I got hurt and I don't want the same for u, if u do nothing else just consider my advise please and thank you. I care about u and I love u!!!!!!!!!!

I know this advice will get me crucified by the regulars, but it's actually more viable than one would think. Thanks to slumlord greed and the government's willingness to pay whatever is asked when it comes to section 8 rentals, market-rate units in the worst parts of the city aren't that much cheaper than much safer, diverse places like roslindale, ashmont and savin hill. If you own, just do a section 8 rental - it will fill in no time at all and that $1500+ a month will get you a nice chunky mortgage that will go a long way as long as you stay away from the yuppy parts.

PS: Adam, why don't you send IPs of the clowns below to BPD? Sounds like they're making threats, and they know who the OP is.

It would help if you would provide some evidence other than "everybody knows", however.

Who takes care of maintenance when you rent your place as Section 8? I am legitimately curious as I have no idea.

To the dude being terrorized on his street, sorry man. That is no fun at all. I lived on the crap side of Boylston Street in JP for a few years. Amazing what moving a few blocks will do in terms of day-to-day interactions.

To the guy who suggested that these guys ride their mini-bikes on trails, I think that would be missing the point. Point being, to annoy the crap out of your neighbors.

I saw a Dirt Bike Mob near Franklin Park this weekend (around Fort Hill) and mentioned it to my friend, who owns a house in Fort Hill and attends all of the community meetings. Apparently, the Dirt Bike Mobs are a frequent topic at community meetings, as many residents feel they are disruptive and dangerous to themselves and others.

The police have said that busting the dirt bikers is "bad for community relations" and "it would cause trouble if something happened during an arrest/chase," so consequently, they will not be doing anything about it.

How arrogant of the police to openly announce that they will not enforce the law.

Hope I'm not riding down the street on my licensed, registered, and insured street motorcycle after you've strung a piano wire across it. Or on my bicycle.

Also, do you really think serious bodily injury should be the penalty for operating an unlicensed, uninsured vehicle?
