Person beaten, robbed at gunpoint in the Fens behind the MFA

Simmons College sent out an alert this morning:
On July 25, 2013 at approximately 4:45am, Boston Police responded to an armed robbery where a handgun was allegedly displayed by two suspects. The Boston Police described the suspects as males wearing all black clothing. This occurred on the footbridge in the Fens Park across from the rear of the Museum of Fine Arts. The victim was injured and was transported to a local hospital. Boston Police were unable to capture the suspects and they fled in an unknown direction.
The injured person was not a Simmons student, but the college urged students to be careful, don't walk alone at night, walk in well lit areas, don't wear headphones and take a charged cell phone.

I am a 50 year old white women that loves hoodies, and I wear mine larger because I don't like my wrists exposed to the cold, and yes I wear it under other jackets. Layering is practical. I don't care what I look like when wind is ravaging my ears. There is nothing more practical then having an attached hood to pull up when needed. The pouch pocket is also helpful to keep hands warm, carry keys ready for defense, and in my case support my paralyzed arm from flailing about.
To people that don't understand, I feel sorry for you, less you fall prey to people you never suspect because they don't fit your stereotypical "Thug". What is normal size clothing? People come in different shapes and sizes, not all should wear form fitting attire for many reasons.
Whatever the current criminal is wearing, it is best to be aware of your surroundings and not walk alone. But, this is a free country, so judge on you crazy sheeples.
Nothing practical about hoodies

As clothing, there is nothing whatsoever practical about hoodies, though I realize people will disagree. When the hood is up they cut off peripheral vision. They feel bulky under outer garments. I don't like wearing them, so I don't. To each their own.
Funny, until they became a cause celebre and political/fashion statement, I didn't even know they were called "hoodies", which is kind of a silly sounding word. Though I had heard them referred to as "hooded sweatshirts".

Meanwhile DCR still refuses to install floodlights on their side of the footbridges. Boston Parks did it when the Boston Police requested it years ago and the state has done nothing but drag their feet. How many people are going to have to get mugged or worse before this is fixed?

This is beyond ridiculous. The city already has a body, what more will it take? Do we really need a few thugs Zimmed in attempted robberies so they finally learn their lesson and stick to robbing each other and stay away from productive members of society?

A. Trayvon was not robbing Zimmerman. He was as "productive" or "unproductive" as any other American teenager. But your implication is otherwise.
B. My bi-racial son could be minding his own business and you or some other would be "defender of the productive people" like Zimmerman could gun him down... a future productive member of society killed to satisfy your fears. Sorry, that does not fit into your neat fantasy where all the "productive" people live peacefully and the "thugs" only kill each other, now does it.

If you did, your son is still more likely to win the lottery than get "Zimmed," though there's a pretty good chance he'd catch one from some random gangbanger. there was a mugging a couple of days before July 4 in brighton. two people with a gun approached a group late at night (11 p.m., I think), near Jackson-Mann School.

What does that have to do with a mugging in the fens? There are muggings all over the city all the time, a lot involving weapons. Of course it's not the first time someone was mugged in the city. Probably not even the first time someone was mugged in the city this week.
