Never bring a traffic cone to a machete fight

An East Boston man was charged with attacking a friend with a machete after the friend allegedly threw a traffic cone through his window early this morning, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Joseph Cahill, 63, had bail set at $25,000 at his arraignment today on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the DA's office says. He was also ordered to wear a GPS device, stay away from his presumably now former friend, surrender his passport and not leave town.

According to the DA's office, the two got into a fight over something around 4 a.m. The friend threw the traffic cone and Cahill went after him with the machete, leaving him with cuts on his head and chest and stumbling around the intersection of Havre and Porter streets.

When asked who had stabbed him, the victim could only say, "Crazy Joe."

The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Innocent, etc.
