Police: Woman shot in South Boston by companion who says he didn't realize the gun he'd just found was loaded

Boston Police report arresting a Quincy man on a variety of gun charges after finding a woman with a fresh gunshot wound around 12:20 a.m. at 15 Dorchester St.

On arrival, officers were met by two males outside the residence who stated an adult female victim was inside. The officers located the victim suffering from an apparent gun shot wound. One of the males stated he had found a firearm in a box and when he removed it, it accidently went off. The suspect was placed into custody.

A loaded Intratec 9mm Luger TEK-DC9 Firearm was recovered.

Christopher Cunningham, 44, of Quincy, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of large capacity feeding device and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a residence, police say. He was not charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
