Two teens arrested after early morning shooting in Dorchester; connection to today's gun battle?

Boston Police report a man in a car on Ridgewood Street was shot around 12:50 a.m. by two teens who fired at him repeatedly.

Police say an officer from the Youth Violence Strike Force witnessed the whole thing - starting with the two running out of 29 Ridgewood toward the car and ending with them running away as he gave chase.

Police say he and other officers arrested the pair about a block away in the area of Westville Street and Geneva Avenue - where 12 hours later, another Youth Violence Strike Force officer exchanged gunfire with a man, leading to that man's death.

Police say the shooting victim got himself to Boston Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Tyshawn Cummings, 18, of Dorchester and Donnelle Joyner, 18, of Dorchester, were both charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and discharging a gun within 500 feet of a dwelling. They're expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on Monday.

Innocent, etc.

What. The. Duck.

Way to go, Boston PD/EMS. How is it that he didn't end up in an ambulance and had to get himself to the hospital?!

It doesn't happen frequently, but it's not that unusual.

Boston EMS is the best in the business, in skill and response time. Put aside the Public Enemy album circa 1990 (Fear of a Black Planet was the one with '911 is a Joke', I think), check it out and learn a little something about your city. Your uneducated snarky comments do quite a bit of harm, believe it or not.

Perhaps the gentleman shot did not want an ambulance to transport him. As, the authorities would have had a great deal of questions to ask. If you get a ride to the hospital, you have time to come up with a tale as to why/ how you were shot. Also, ambulances don't have radar to detect when/ where they are needed, they have to be called. When you have a situation where no one will call authorities and / or speak to them, this is what happens.

Right. If you drive yourself to the hospital, authorities won't care why you got shot. If anything, this makes too much sense.

As I said, you have TIME to come up with a tale. I never said they would not be asking questions. You came up with "authorities won't care why you got shot.", nice assumption though. If you are transported from the scene, the authorities will know exactly where the incident took place and probably the circumstances of the shooting You could be held accountable for your involvement in the shooting, as opposed to going to the hospital independently and having less of a trail (< or having that perception). I am not saying this is a logical plan, but this is the reality.

You don't have to make up stories here. Save that for court.
