Allston bank held up at gunpoint
By adamg on Thu, 12/12/2013 - 2:54pm
The Century Bank branch at 300 Western Ave. was held up around 2:45 p.m. by a black man with a gun. He wore a gray wool scally cap, a gray sweatshirt and a black wool coat. He was last seen headed on foot towards Cambridge - holding a small, black plastic trash can into which he'd placed his loot.

Site of a historic Boston bank robbery in the early 70s, although the building is different now.
Interesting. More deets?

Schroeder shooting?
Yes, that Century Bank used to be a State Street Bank
It was the site of the notorious robbery that killed BPD Officer Paul Schroeder: http://www.thecrimson.com/article/1970/10/5/a-bank-is-robbed-a-cop/ The robbery's location has been widely misreported for many years as occurring in Brighton, but that's wrong. There's a plaque commemorating Schroeder on the bank building.
Isn't it a case of "Allston
Isn't it a case of "Allston is part of Brighton"? In any case, the other side of Everett Street is Brighton, if I'm not mistaken, so it's not too far off.
Allston is NOT part of Brighton
Puh-lease.
Allston is not part of Brighton. (Now, maybe a campus of Harvard...)
But Everett Street is more or less the border between Allston and North Brighton. Since the bank is on the east side of Everett St., it would be in Allston.
Of course, if you live in Brighton, then North Brighton is considered Allston, unless something good happens there, then it's considered Allston.
Getting all this??
Holy cow...
Lefty Gilday and the Brandeis girls...though I'm glad to note that we all remember Schroeder as well and not just the infamous robbers.
Schroeder, correct, I couldn

The old bank was much cooler-looking, IMO, but I can't easily find a picture of it at the moment. Classic 50s/60s modern.
FYI this guy was not black.
Doesn't look black to me anyway.
