Man beaten, robbed at cigarette-lighterpoint on Hyde Park/Roslindale line

Updated with BPD info.

Boston Police report arresting two of four men who alleged beat and robbed a man on Clare Avenue, just off American Legion Highway and Hyde Park Avenue, around 9:40 p.m.

Police say they were called to the scene by the victim's wife, who looked outside to see her husband under attack by a group of masked teens, one of whom displayed a gun.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with head and hand injuries, but is expected to recover, police say.

The man's wife said the attackers split up, some running off on foot, some driving away in a car with a conspicuous dent in the rear bumper. Police say they found the car parked in the parking lot of the nearby Stop & Shop strip mall.

A search of the suspects and the vehicle revealed a chrome-colored cigarette lighter in the shape of a handgun stored in the passenger’s side door compartment, as well as a roll of duct tape, handcuffs, and a black neoprene ski mask with a skull pattern on it. The victim’s cell phone was also recovered.

Luis Perez, 20, of Roxbury, and Hector Rosario, 23, of Chester, PA, were charged with armed robbery. The other two men remain at large.

At their arraignments in West Roxbury District Court today, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office asked for bail of $25,000 each; Judge Mary Ann Driscoll set bail at $5,000.

Innocent, etc.

Chester, PA?

I'd originally written a snarky joke about what I thought was some random town. Then I went to wikipedia > Chester, Pennsylvania > Demographics:

"The per capita income for the city was $9,052."

That's unbelievable. This is even worse:

"In 1995, the state designated Chester as a financially distressed municipality. Soon thereafter, the city's schools ranked last among the state's 501 districts, leading Pennsylvania education officials in 2001 to hire the for-profit Edison Schools to run the local school district for three years."
