Ugh. I frequently walk down this stretch of road, often at this time of day. Typically, there are a lot of people out and it feels safe.

Local civic associations have been encouraging the Boston Police and State Police to intervene concerning the large number of vagrants and intoxicated addicts in and around Everett Sq., near this daytime crime scene. Their presence creates an atmosphere of isolation, even with many people/cars on the streets. Nobody wants to be hassled for money while just walking/driving in the public space. So, this makes the area less safe for everybody, since people are less likely to pay attention of get involved. I'd encourage interested citizens to support these efforts by the police to keep the area clear of sketchy vagrants. For example, stop handing them money and call 911 when you see people hassling drivers or pedestrians.
