Roslindale middle school ransacked; two arrested

UPDATE, Sunday morning: A BPS spokesman says school will open on a regular schedule tomorrow. BPS teams are currently assessing the cost of fixing the damage, he says, adding he does not yet know if the alleged vandals were Irving students.

Boston Police report arresting two of the three teenagers they say smashed up ten classrooms at the Irving Middle School on Cummins Highway early this morning.

Police say an alarm brought officers to the school around 1:45 a.m.:

At one point officers heard the school public address system go off and a male voice talking. The officers continued to hear noises from inside the school. Soon after hearing the noises inside the school, one officer who was positioned outside observed three white males quickly exit a side door of the school. The suspects began to leave the area when they observed the officers and began to run away jumping fence. Officers at the scene gave chase as the suspects separated to elude capture.

Police say the officers managed to nab two of the three. Back at the school, officers found:

At least 10 classrooms and their contents ransacked, several windows broken and electronic equipment damaged. Damage was also found to the display cases in the front hall and several cash registers in the cafeteria.

The alleged little darlings will be arraigned Monday on juvenile charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime, malicious destruction of property, larceny from a building under $250 and resisting arrest.

Two years in a row... Same thing happened last December by current and former students. That school serves some pretty rough kids.

Dear Anon, there is no mention of the suspects being students of the Irving. So, I believe it would be best to hold back any assumptions & comments such as "that school serves some pretty rough kids." Do you know anything about the current Irving or are you one of those who still live in the 80's & that's the Irving you speak of?

Kim, anon did not say that it was students who did the B&E. Don't know where you got your psychology degree but the Irving does have some tough kids.

The Irving also has some great kids, and the Irving is not the same school it was five years ago. Why the insistence on discussing "tough" kids there when we don't even know if the vandals go/went there?

The Irving in the 1980's when Dick Maloney was principal, was a great school. It wasn't until he retired and Jim Watson, who was extremely under qualified for the job and had no common sense to boot, took over that the school took a nose dive. So please don't come on here making comments about others assumptions when you don't know the subject yourself.

One of our kids went there -- and it seemed pretty well run at that point.

Things have changed at the Irving in recent years under the new principal. It doesn't have the tough reputation of several years ago yes, there are still some challenging kids there, but my kids went there recently, and it is a much improved school with some strong teachers and a great extended day Citizens School program. This is the second year in a row this has happened...wonder if there is an easy way to get in. I hope if the kids, whether Irving Students or not, have to clean, and work to pay for some of the damage.

...with Cit Schools at the Irving (6th and 7th graders): bunch of high energy good kids was my experience; every school, church, government, association, non-profit, for profit, corporation, town, etc has its bad apples...most of em are pretty sweet.

I agree, there is no mention of the teens arrested as being students of the school, so let's not spread rumors before the facts. The Irving has changed tremendously for the better the past few years. We shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Yes the Irving do have a pretty bunch of rough kids and you can see this living in the areavof the Irving. May I mention that Anon NEVER said that these particular kids went to the Irving, he said in December when it happen. The point is, some knuckle heads broke into a school and did something they knew better then to do. Idiots
