Ida Know was playing pool when the gun just mysteriously went off

When police arrived at a residence on Bradlee Street in Dorchester on the evening of Oct. 9 to investigate gunfire, they found a basement full of guys who all basically denied knowing anything about gunfire or even a gun - at least until the keen-eyed officers noticed one sitting in a pocket of the pool table they were all standing around.

Even still, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports, all six guys - ranging in age from 14 to their 30s - denied any knowledge of how a gun just happened to wind up stuck in the pool table and denied hearing any gunfire, even after police officers separated them and interviewed each individually.

Amin Robinson, 34, was arraigned today in Dorchester District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm. According to the DA's office:

Testing by the Boston Police Department’s Latent Print Unit revealed one useful print matching Robinson’s right middle finger. Based on that fingerprint, detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest and executed it on Friday.

Robinson had bail set at $2,000 and was ordered to wear a GPS device and abide by a curfew if he makes bail.

The DA's office continues that when police first arrived at the address - based on a report from the BPD ShotSpotter system - they "heard voices – apparently discussing a fight that had just occurred - coming from a nearby basement door."

When they knocked on the door, though, the homeowner said nobody else was home.

When told that voices from the rear suggested otherwise, acknowledged that someone might be there. The homeowner granted the officers access to the basement.

Innocent, etc.

Did anyone actually make a 911 call? Or was shotspotter the only way police even knew of shots fired? Things will never improve if nobody calls 911 when things happen. If there are gunshots near my house, guaranteed that I'm dialing 911! What is so hard about that? You can even press *67 to make it private!
That being said, the police dept. really doesn't do a great job of encouraging people to call. Their text a tip hotline doesn't work sometimes (possibly it's certain carriers or prepay phones that aren't allowed?) and sends back error messages. There are dispatchers here and there that have really bad attitudes and will sound incredulous of what it is you are claiming to be calling for. That is some, not all, and it has never discouraged me from calling anyway. But for a person already wary of police, it can have a negative impact and they might decide to say the heck with it, instead of dealing with the hassle.

Do you really think *67 works for 911?

911 has access to your phone number even if you block Caller ID.

I understand the charges for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, but how do they get the unlawful carrying of a firearm charge? The article says they recovered it in a pool table pocket, so it wasn't being carried...
