Convicted rapist wearing an ankle bracelet charged with three armed robberies on Mission Hill street

Acevedo

Boston Police report a man was arrested Monday for three armed robberies on Calumet Street - based in part on the GPS device he was wearing as a condition of his probation on a South End rape and armed robbery conviction in 2007.

According to police, Abram Acevedo, 33, of Boston, approached a man walking down Calumet around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, told him he had a gun and demanded money. Police say he

[T]hen led the victim to a nearby ATM, located inside the Punjab Mini Mart [on Tremont Street], where the suspect ordered the victim to withdraw money. After getting money from the ATM, the suspect took off.

Police say Acevedo pulled a similar ATM stunt around 7 p.m. on Friday with somebody else walking down Calumet and around 3 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Calumet and Pequot streets, with somebody he forced to withdraw money from two ATMs.

After establishing the suspect’s identity, detectives learned that the suspect was on probation and being monitored by the Massachusetts Probation Service's Electronic Monitoring Program and was last seen in Lynn. On Tuesday, February 24, 2015, with help from the Lynn Police Department, Boston Police detectives were able to locate and apprehend the suspect in the area of 300 Washington Street in Lynn. A search of the suspect enabled officers to locate and seize two black airsoft or replica firearms.

Acevedo was charged with three counts of armed robbery and kidnapping. A West Roxbury Municipal Court judge ordered him held in lieu of $75,000, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

In 2007, Acevedo pleaded guilty to rape and armed-robbery charges, acknowledging that he tried to force a man to get him money from an ATM and that, when that didn't work, made the man perform fellatio on him.

He was sentenced to seven years in prison, followed by two years of probation, during which he was required to wear a GPS device on his ankle.

Innocent, etc.

That is a pretty light sentence for such a nasty crime.

His Facebook says he is in a relationship with a woman. Wonder if she knew he was convicted off raping a man? I can't imagine what in the world people are thinking when they get involved with people like this. He sounds like a sick person.

Low self-esteem. And some women think that, through love and nurturing they can "fix" people like this.

Enough of these liberal politicians and judges. This State should destroy all of these electronic devices and this guy should be behind bars!

1. it saves money overall (even if a few of these stupids are caught again)

2. Research assignment: take a look at the companies who provide and profit off of these bracelets and their monitoring. Then take a look at who runs them and where they make their campaign donations.

It must be pretty empowering for criminals to know they can do this in broad daylight, with a near zero percent chance of their victim being armed. Not to say this stuff doesn't happen elsewhere, but in Boston it's pretty much just the cops and criminals who are carrying.

Please explain how much lower the crime rate is in Texas and Florida given the much higher probability of encountering armed citizens.

It's easy to win arguments when you challenge a statement that was never made, but it's also easy to google the populations of Texas and Florida as they relate to Massachusetts. Hint: it's roughly 4x and 2.5x, one of them on a national border that sees some of the worst drug cartel violence.

You bring up an interesting point; it's just not the point. Though I'm sure you knew that and just wanted to feel smug, cause you have an opinion on everything, don't you?
