Police: Tip leads to arrest of man with loaded gun outside Mattapan liquor store

Boston Police report arresting a Mattapan man they say was packing a loaded gun while hanging out in Mattapan Square last night.

Police say officers descended on the sidewalk outside Happy Liquors, 1633 Blue Hill Ave., around 10:50 p.m. on Saturday when somebody called District B-3 to report a man with a gun there:

The caller reported that three males had flashed a gun, in particular a black male wearing a black coat and a black hat with yellow writing. Responding officers observed a large group in front of the above address. The officers approached the group and explained their presence, and due to the nature of the call, officers began to pat frisk the individuals for their safety. One male wearing a black coat and black hat with yellow writing immediately separated himself from the group and began to walk away. The male continued to ignore officers' commands to wait. As the male fled, an approaching officer intercepted his escape. The male's hands immediately went to his waistband, and a struggle ensued. Once the male was apprehended, a pat frisk revealed a loaded Ruger MKIII .22 caliber firearm in his waistband.

Ishmael Lewis, 22, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm and resisting arrest.

Innocent, etc.
