I can show you at least a dozen condo complexes within a very short walk of here. You need to look at a map. South Boston probably has the highest amount of subsidized housing in the City. Many condos are on the perimeter of these projects.

I don't know Southie that well, but I decided to look at property transactions on Thomas Park, what I would consider walking distance from the scene (though it would be easier to walk from Thomas Park than to there due to the hill.) Sure enough, 40 Thomas Park, unit 1, was sold for $800,000 on March 9th. I can't link to the info, but the Registry of Deeds website can be your friend.

The guy would have made a better point to say that it's not like these condos are anywhere Andrew Square, but then again, I'm not him (or her.)

The South End is what a lot of people are worried the whole city will turn into- affluence with pockets of poverty. Therefore, a half million dollar condo in the basement of a building across the streets from public (or subsidized) housing is nothing.
