Police: Teen tried to sneak loaded gun into Dorchester school

Boston Police report arresting a Dorchester 15-year-old after he allegedly tried to get into Tech Boston Academy on Peacevale Road with a loaded Mauser .32-caliber handgun in his backpack.

Police gave the following account of the incident at 10:40 a.m. today:

Officers were informed by the Dean of Discipline that a student who arrived late for school and attempted to skirt the metal detectors at the school entrance was being subject to an administrative search. Officers looked inside the open, unzipped backpack and observed a black firearm in plain view. When officers attempted to apprehend the student, the student fled from the office and physically and violently resisted the officers.

The teen, not named due to his age, was charged with being delinquent due to illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and resisting arrest.

New Hampshire and Maine are the top two states that export "illegal" guns-- guns purchased illegally --to Massachusetts. I have no idea where he got it, though.

What a phenomenally bad decision.

15 year old boys make bad decisions.

Kids growing up in our city in an environment with illegal guns will make bad decisions about arming themselves with a firearm. Did he bring it to school to use it or show it off or to defend himself?

A saw a documentary about guys who made the same decision to carry or use a gun. They were all serving time but the way they talked about what the gun meant to them at the time was compelling.

They all regretted their decision and they all spoke honestly about the cost, regret, who they hurt, what it's cost them, the bad decision. I wonder if seeing that would influence young teenage boys in Boston to make better decisions about carrying or using a firearm.

These are the guys we grant all the responsibilities of policing, but none of the defense tools, right?
