Five face charges over alleged sale of rifle in Roslindale parking lot

Boston Police report officers investigating gun sales arrested five people in the parking lot of the American Legion McDonald's last night after arranging to buy a high-powered weapon from one of them.

Police say an officers posing as a prospective buyers met the five in the parking lot around 7 p.m.:

The suspect, accompanied in a vehicle by four additional males, handed the officers a bag containing a Norinco Mak-90 Sporter caliber 7.62x39 and two magazines with ammunition in exchange for money. The suspect entered a vehicle with the other males, and they attempted to drive away when they were blocked from doing so by additional BPD marked police units. The suspects then attempted to flee on foot, but were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

Tyree Cannady, 19, of Charlestown, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a high capacity feeding device, and illegal sale of a firearm, police say, adding he was also charged with possession of crack with intent to distribute after officers found 15 bags of crack in his pocket.

Cannady's alleged driver, Rakyah Brown, 19, of Malden, and passengers Rashean Brown, 22, Chevrick Humber, 21, of Dorchester and a 17-year-old were charged with the same gun offenses, police say. Humber was already wanted on a warrant out of Dedham for assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.

Cannaday had bail set at $50,000, but had his bail on an earlier assault-and-battery case in Dorchester revoked, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. The teen, who allegedly acted as a lookout, had bail set at $10,000. Rakeyah Brown's bail was set at $500; Rashean Brown's and Chevrick's at $1,000.

Innocent, etc.

Let us see if the city takes the opportunity to enforce the 1989 AW ban ordinance for the first time in nearly 30 years.

AKs are specifically named in the city ordinance as verboten.

I bet they were all planning to go deer hunting. Or, perhaps, they needed all those weapons for protection. Oh, wait....they might be criminals. How can the NRA tell?

Massachusetts doesn't have a rifle season for deer, but you could hunt with it in other states. And what does the NRA have to do with this? Are they in charge of prosecuting gun crimes in MA now?
