Four terrible Dorchester stories within the space of a few hours. Must be some kind of record.

We have seen an incredible amount of violence the past few days, starting on Christmas Eve. I have been a BPD cop for several years now, and this has been one of the worst stretches I have ever seen.

Local criminals know that our cops won't shoot them (and our judges won't hand out tough sentences) so they do whatever they want.

As long as these incidents are isolated to Dorchester and Roxbury (and not in the pearl clutchers' back yards) then it's going to stay this way.

Our penal system is pretty laughable. Adam do you remember posting recently about how undercover BPD officers witnessed a shooting on Morse Street in Dorchester? Well, that kid has already been released.

As a cop, I can't tell you how much that infuriates me.

I can't even begin to imagine how frustrating it must be to know you've done YOUR job and these people get cut loose down the line to re-offend. Court system seems to have no problem endangering the public.

I'd be interested to see any data or syntheses of statistics that you used to determine that "cops not shooting people" and professionally apprehending suspects leads to elevations in the crime rate?

Links would be nice.

Oh, and you do realize that police in Chicago, while shooting at a "lunging" suspect, also killed a bystander? http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/7/71/1207663/father-19-year-old-killed-...

Recently, I have read quite a few stories where the perps have been wearing a GPS monitor. Quite brazen.

I'm baffled as to why a surge in violence.
