Gunman takes man's laptop - and his jacket

Police are looking for a guy who used a gun to stick up somebody at Arcadia and Corwin streets in Dorchester around 4 p.m.

The suspect, black, about 5'7" and heavyset, took the victim's phone, laptop, North Face bag and the jacket he was wearing.

Can stealing someone's jacket on a day when temps are below freezing be charged as something heavier than theft? It could cause bodily harm, so perhaps attempted murder or, at the least, assault?

just no

oh and out of curiosity, would you say the same thing if this had happened in newton and the guy that did it was a resident there?

i honestly dare you to say yes and pretend like you 100% mean it

And it has nothing to do with pretending.

Are you privy to where the culprit lives? If so, perhaps you should tell the police rather than wasting time making false assumptions concerning my character.

that if i lived in newton and wanted a jacket and computer, i wouldnt commute into dorchester to steal one

i don't need to make assumptions- you've already laid everything out plainly. you suggested attempted murder charges for jacket theft. you're clearly delusional bordering on mentally ill if you think that is appropriate.

Clearly delusional bordering on mentally ill? You just keep upping the ante with your insulting remarks and I don't appreciate it. I'll refrain from engaging in a pissing contest with you in deference to Adam, but I'll gladly point out your factual problems with reading comprehension and the English language.

I did not suggest, in any way, that the location of the crime had something to do with my asking the question. You brought that into it and defamed me while doing so.

I asked the question because it seemed like a particularly cruel sort of theft on a freezing day. I wondered about laying as heavy a charge as possible on a criminal in order to dissuade criminal activity. If you want to argue against that, it is certainly your right. It is not, however, your right to attack me in an effort to make your point.

And now here's an English lesson. You are trying to defend your inappropriate reaction by saying you are "privy" to some sort of logic. You don't know the meaning of the word. Logic, by its very nature, is not something to which someone can be "privy".

Going down that route with a guy who commuted from Mattapan to Latin for high school?

I cant believe it, i'm almost going to agree with Suldog that I do think it should charged as more than just theft. Not sure assault or attempted murder fit but should be more than theft. If it was a more remote location the victim would be in real trouble. Of course I cant find it now, but the article about the guy who wouldnt let his drunk girlfriend into the house, she decided to sleep it off(or something) outside and ended up dying in the cold. He got charged and had to serve some serious time.

It simply does not work like that.

That pointing a gun at someone can indeed be charged as assault.

Assault with a dangerous weapon, which carries a higher possible sentence.
