Back in the day, kids used lanyards for keys or IDs

Boston Police report arresting a Dorchester man they say was wearing a loaded gun on a lanyard around his neck yesterday morning.

Police say gang-unit officers were on patrol around 10:35 a.m. on Quincy Street when they saw three guys they knew and went to have a little chat:

As officers were speaking to the men about recent gang violence in the area, they observed that one of them, Keyron Baskin-Whitfield, 19, of Dorchester, appeared to be nervous and looked as though he was attempting to conceal something under his sweatshirt. Officers performed a pat frisk and recovered a loaded Ruger Model P89 9mm handgun that was underneath the suspect's sweatshirt, tied to a lanyard that was hanging around his neck. The suspect was then placed in custody without incident.

Baskin-Whitfield was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Innocent, etc.

What are the chances he'll serve more time in jail for his illegal gun lanyard then the guy who was sentenced for two years for crippling four people with his car yesterday?

At least this guy only had the propensity to hurt someone.

He is really fashion forward, upping those wearing clocks, Mercedes emblems, ornamental guns etc. Not so handy for quick access and use for self defense.
