Two robbed of phone at gunpoint outside Forest Hills T stop

Around 9:10 p.m. on Hyde Park Avenue in front of the lower level of the T station by two black teens, one in a red hoodie, one in a gray hoodie.

If it happens right outside of the station, whose jurisdiction is it; Transit Police or Boston Police? Or both?

The victims got themselves to E-13, where they reported the robbery. BPD requested Transit Police because at first it sounded like it had happened in one of the parking lots on the station property (where the buses park, maybe?). But it turned out the robbery was actually on the sidewalk in front of the station, along Hyde Park Avenue, which is BPD jurisdiction, so they kept control of the case.

This issue did not stop the investigation - there were BPD cops looking for the suspects inside the station itself. And they continued to do so even when it seemed like this would be a TPD case. BPD and TPD seem to work pretty well together when something like this comes up (similar cooperation with that shooting inside the station a year ago).

Similar with any incidents at Ashmont. BPD and Transit do appear to work pretty cooperatively.

My strong preference would be to take the T at night and I rarely do as I don't feel safe. My last stop is Forest Hills. Coming in around 8:30 pm onward, buses to Roslindale are sporadic and the area lacks the lighting to discourage petty incidents and to feel secure. I know I am an easy target because of age and gender. Two weeks ago I spent 5 days in NYC...I couldn't believe the sea change in that system from 5 years ago as I traveled from NYC to Brooklyn and other wide ranging places. The cars and overall subway system were uniformly clean, passengers mostly quite courteous and the stations felt vibrant...and safe - at least to midnight. And well lighted! Humorous message boards and verbal messages requested and reminded passengers to be respectful to other passengers. NYC MTA is doing something right and Boston officials should visit and learn what that is (yes, it's NYC, but in this case, there are lessons to be learned. And yes, the MTA struggles with subway crime just as Boston. I am not naive enough to believe there will ever be this perfect system, but come on - we can expect more and do better than this current sad state of the MBTA).

The safety improvements in NYC probably have a lot more to do with the petty crime committing element getting priced further and further outside the Manhattan/Brooklyn areas.

They're just always going to have more people riding late at night, which automatically makes for a safer feel.

That's not to say the MBTA can't make improvements in lighting etc.
