Police: Gun battle inside Dorchester home followed by confrontation with police; one dead, two injured

Boston Police report one man is dead and two are injured following an incident inside 107 Devon St. and just outside around 10:25 a.m.

Police Commissioner William Evans reports officers responding to a report of a shooting victim inside 107 Devon found two men around the corner, at Stanwood and Laredo, with one, apparently shot in the leg, leaning on the other, he said.

An officer told him to drop the gun, then repeated the command two more times and told him to show his hands, Evans said. Instead, a gun battle erupted. The man was hit and died.

"Nobody likes to take a life, but if you're going to point a gun at an officer the way he did, obviously, we're going to protect ourselves, we're going to neutralize the threat," he said.

None of the officers was hit, he said. He added a gun was recovered. As of 12:20 p.m., the man's body remained where he fell, now covered by a tarp.

A man was found inside 107 Devon with gunshot wounds he said.

To drop the weapon.....
This story took a major jump. Cops went to aboved mentioned address located victim, went around the corner found two others. When in this story did they determine that these were suspects? Were the officers in uniform? Just to play devil advocate. After such an event takes place, ur dazed, confused, shocked, scared and possibly emotional. I don't know if this individual was pointing it, or showing it like hey I got a gun. Not to shoot u but so that u don't shoot me. Perhaps on the way out the door they grab it to protect themselves against whoever just came to this residences shooting while these two try to make a safe retreat. Guess its to early in reporting to know. Any suspect caught?
After reading this I was quite concerned for the two around the corner, and do we know if the one shot had gun or the one holding that one up. Are these males or female...
So many questions on this one!

Both were men.

You're digging deep, sounds like a failed home invasion to me but I could be wrong.

None of them had any licenses to carry firearms, and some of them had firearms.

You play with fire, you get burned is the best way to describe situations like this.

Gonna go out on a limb here and guess the suspects were already federally prohibited persons with prior felony convictions.

Thankfully the office was not struck.

Not sure how you could describe this as "great work"... someone died.

Who was shooting at a cop - would you prefer if it was the cop who was dead? Great work indeed - all police officers made it out of it alive, and murderous thug is off the streets, permanently.

First off, we don't know who shot first in the incident with police. Nor do we know if the man who was killed even had a gun on him at the time. Obviously I wouldn't rather the cop be the one who was shot, but to describe the situation as "great work" by police officers is a force. Overall the event is extremely unfortunate. Also, to describe someone who hasn't even been identified yet as "murderous" is pretty presumptuous of you. Not sure he ever killed anybody before. People have a hard time of reading about stories like this without adding in their own postulations as to what happened. But hey, he was PROBABLY a no good thug who deserved to be shot dead in the middle of the street.

Couldn't agree more. The officer probably saved multiple other lives and prevented crimes by getting him off the streets. Sad someone had to be killed but don't shoot people, and don't point guns at cops. It's not a difficult concept.

A person who probably would have killed some innocent people at some point (including that day) chose to not live, so they decided to fire their illegal gun at some cops, not hitting anyone (like people in the office he works) in that process.

Neutralizing that threat before any innocent people get killed can be seen as good work by many.

Thanks BPD for risking your lives to keep us safe!

Multiple firearms violations on this persons record per another source. Why is it a violent felon with multiple violations is walking free when in contrast possession of 2 standard capacity magazines= a 5 year felony?

Insanity.

Or are already out from serving time.

They termed them violations. So I assumed that implied convictions, not sure.

If this person is much over 30 I would be shocked, we will of course have to wait and see. Young person already convicted of firearms crimes back out on the streets yet an effectively victim-less "crime" = 5 years is full on nuts.

The perp had 60+ arraignments on his record. WTF is wrong with this state that this guy was out and about to keep offending?

He was probably trying to catch up to the regular gangbangers.

Yeah, I'm a cop too and 60 is a lot, but no where near the most I've ever seen.

I've seen people out and about with 200 plus.

When I arrest people and they ask me if they think they will be held by a judge, I always tell them, "don't underestimate what state you live in. You'll be free after your arraignment - guaranteed".

So sick & tired of the violence in our streets... Like a lot of people r saying no1 knows what took place but 2 people on a corner 1 shot leaning on another... Y couldnt the BPD use rubber bullets to take a suspect instead of straight kill??? I mean not all officers but maybe use rubber bullet first if don't work then yes other officer can back up shoot but damn lets try & change... Maybe that will change a lot of violence in our streets if the Police change ..

Have you missed all the stories about how Boston officers DON'T shoot when confronted with people aiming guns at them? Boston is not Cleveland, far from it.

How about clowns like you go to the police academy, join the BPD, arm yourself with rubber bullets and go take on a bunch of murderous thugs who are shooting at you with real bullets? Talk is cheap, go practice what you preach. Or are you only able to (electronically) hate on those KKKops and deface random buildings with RIP $gangbangername tags?

Do you really think gangbangers are shooting each other and whoever else happens to be in the area because cops choose to respond with real bullets instead of rubber bullets when shot at? If so, which planet are you from?

So if you were a cop and someone opened fire on you with real live rounds, you honestly believe that you'd have the mental and physical aptitude to respond by firing rubber bullets back at them?

Please don't EVER take the police test. You'd get officers killed.

Sincerely,

A Boston Cop

The way y'all PERFECT people talk about someone that is deceased! Like his family or friends can't be reading this, and 99.9% don't know shit about the streets. You can't throw dirt on this man's name like y'all know him or what really happened out there. To me the majority of y'all on here are the cowards and thugs. I say that because what kind of human being gets on their computer and starts saying shit like he's this and he's that he did this and the only thing you really know about him is that he's dead! Lol y'all kill me every single time something happens in the hood everybody comes out of the woodwork, and then you got the ones that go and search his name to find some shit on him like he can speak up for himself instead of expressing y'all condolences to his family or some shit.
P.S THIS IS FROM A EX GANG MEMBER R.I.P TO THIS MAN MY CONDOLENCES TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!!

First and foremost, my condolences to this Man's loved ones. As a lifelong Bostonian, I truly know ur pain. The government for years now have been trying to erase our race, that's not my opinion but the facts. We as blacks are helping them succeed. There are too too many unsolved murders throughout the years and it makes me wonder.... What I do know is in order to stop the violence we must first conquer violence, hate and envy from within.
In a post on here it read something about slandering the name of the decease. How did anyone get his name. The media outlets portrays all young black men who have met their demise wit a side order of shade in the five minutes of fame at four o'clock when most ppl are in route somewhere because that life really doesn't matter.
I tip my hat to sites like paying homage! Every life matters!
In closing, I would like to do a call of action for all the now fatherless children in Boston. Let's take the time to sit down and talk to our neighborhood kids and family. Let's start a peace treaty and let's Bostonian black, white or green throw a block party at Jermaine Goffagin(my apologies for the misspelled) park on Blue Hill ave for fathers day. Let's commit to get rid of these guns and go back to a good Ol fashion street fight. Let's get back to it takes a village to raise these kids.
I could go on for days on all the ways we can stop these! One thing is for certain our clergy, police, social service and street workers are not enough. It starts at home at birth!
