Police: When guy's friends picked him up in their car in the South End, they didn't realize he'd just robbed a bank

Boston Police report arresting Jeremy Woodley, 35, on charges he held up the Commerce Bank branch at 1320 Washington St. Saturday morning.

Police say Woodley gave a teller a note that he had a gun and wanted money around 11:30 a.m. Then:

The suspect fled the bank with an undetermined amount of cash and was seen getting into the back seat of a motor vehicle which then drove off. Officers located the car a few blocks away and were able to safely stop it and remove the suspect, placing him in custody without incident. As the officers were performing a pat frisk, they felt a bulge in the suspect’s pocket, at which point the suspect informed them "I'm not carrying any weapons, that's just the money from the bank." The suspect also added, "The people in the car have nothing to do with this." The driver of the car and a passenger were interviewed by detectives and released when it was determined they had no knowledge of the suspect’s actions.

In 2006, Woodley was sentenced to almost five years in federal prison for a similar robbery at the Citizens Bank branch on West Broadway in South Boston in 2003.

He got the sentence after admitting he and a couple of friends were driving around when he told the driver to pull over outside the bank, which he walked into and gave a teller a note demanding money or he'd shoot. He then went back to the car, where a dye pack in his newfound money exploded.

Innocent, etc.

I can't imagine the friend who drove him to the '06 job was too thrilled when the dye pack exploded in his car.

I have a reverse story from when I was on a jury.

These guys are driving around boosting wheels off a car one night. Somebody sees them and says "stop" that and they drive off. Cops show up and then a block away the car is seen cruising by, cops give chase eventually stop the car at gunpoint and pull the three guys out. Two guys in the front cop a plea, but third guy in the back says he wasn't involved. Never mind the lug nuts and tire wrenches in the back seat.

His story is that he's trying to get back to Charlestown from JP in the dead of night and vaguely remembers some guys he met at a party a month earlier, calls them up, and they agree to pick him up coincidentally just after getting chased away from their nefarious deeds. I don't believe him for a second but the cops don't have anything other than he happened to be in the car when they stopped it. So presumption of innocence and all, and we have to acquit.

I sort of think they all had a party afterward but their luck eventually ran out. Or maybe they drive for Uber now.

If that's what he said on the stand a pissed off prosecutor might have a subpoena issued for his phone records and if they prove a greater/longer relationship it would get him for perjury which I would bet has a greater charge than boosting wheels and you're much less likely to find a sympathetic judge to give a light sentence.
