Police locate guy who may have had young son in his SUV while he shot a man

Ayala-Powell

Boston Police charge that Juan Ayala-Powell, 27, shot a man around 11:40 p.m. yesterday at 198 Blue Hill Ave. - then sped away in a Ford Explorer with his son, Kelvin Martins, 9, in the back seat.

Police say Kelvin showed up unharmed around 12:30 p.m. today in Dorchester, but that his father remains on the lam. The man he allegedly shot is expected to survive, police say.

WCVB reports Ayala-Powell was arrested in Revere today.

Innocent, etc.

I'm going to swear a lot. Don't read further if you're sensitive to that.

This makes me apoplectic with rage. I'm literally shaking as I type this.

Just... fuck this guy. Fuck him to death with a fucking cthulu and feed him to the cthulu and then fucking kill the cthulu and make sure they're all fucking dead.

Nadia Vega, a friend who is like an aunt to Kalven, said she took matters into her own hands, not bound by the need for a warrant.

“I said, ‘I’m not a cop; I’m going to go into the house,’ ” said Vega, 26. “I wasn’t scared at all. I was just worried about getting him . . . As soon as I ran in there and he heard me call his name, he came running.”

The people that little boy has in his life, aside from his shithead father, are amazing.

I'm not a cop and I'm not a judge. I'm John Q Public and I get to make my mind up based on reports in the media. Plenty of what reported is fact and occams razor says this turd shot a guy with his kid in the car. Should a pan-dimensional ubergod come and take care of business, well that's fine with me.

We have a justice system for a reason, and we have rules within that system to make it work well. The whole innocent-until-proven-guilty thing is pretty important, we believe.

You're effectively punishing him, even if only his reputation, extra-judicially, discarding these rules, checks, and balances we've been evolving for hundreds of years.

And when you say it, it encourages other people to also think that way.

That kid never had a chance.

I am a long time reader but I have never commented. I really admire the work you do Adam. I ask that in the future, you consider not publishing the names of children who have been the victims of abuse and neglect. This child is an innocent victim of his father's violence. This will be a long lasting trauma and the media exposure will surely compound his suffering and further complicate his healing. Thanks for your consideration.

And normally, yes, I'd agree. This case was a bit different, though, because the police had identified the child as they searched for him overnight and early today; so his name was out there and people might want to know what happened to him. Also see this Globe story.
